Teen Programs
Programs are held at the Main branch of the Wayne Public Library & Wayne residents get preference for sign-up availability. Registration can be done online by visiting the Event Calendar above, beginning at the designated time on the registration date.

NOTE: If you are unable to attend a program, please kindly call the library in advance. This will allow others on the waiting list to attend the program, as well as prevent waste of materials.

CommuniTeens Meet!

Monday, February 20, 2017 from 2:30—3:30 PM (No School in Wayne)

Fun, friends, and food! Let’s collaborate with peers and continue to share our ideas. Be ready to participate in some fun ice breaker games. Open to Young Adults in 5th through 12th grade.

Teen Knitting 101

Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 6:00—7:00 PM

Come join us as we relax and KNIT together. Feel free to bring in your own knitting needles and yarn. Supplies are available thanks to generous donations. Please note: knitting needles have pointy tips so use with care. Open to Young Adults in 5th through 12th grade.

WPL Y.A. Chess Club

Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 6:00—7:30 PM

Come and develop your strategic skills and challenge a new opponent. Young Adults in grades 5—12 are welcome to play chess against each other or with our seasoned players.

Teen Films: Kubo and the Two Strings

Saturday, March 4th, 2017 from 2:00—4:00 PM

**Popcorn will be served. Bring your own drinks.** Kubo lives a quiet, normal life in a small shore side village until a spirit from the past turns his life upside down by re-igniting an age-old vendetta. This causes all sorts of havoc as gods and monsters chase Kubo who, in order to survive, must locate a magical suit of armor once worn by his late father, a legendary Samurai warrior. (Rated PG, 101 mins.) Open to Young Adults in 5th through 12th grade.

Knitting 101

Wednesday, March 8, 2017 from 4:00—5:00 PM

Young Adults in grades 5—12, are you interested in learning how to knit? Come join us as we relax and learn the basics together. In this session, we will understand the differences between knit and purl stitches. Feel free to bring in your own knitting needles and yarn. Supplies are available thanks to generous donations. Teen Creates! Make a Paracord Bracelet/Wrist Band

Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.

Come and learn how to make this stylish wrist band similar to the one in the 2015 Mad Max Movie. Paracord Bracelets are known for optimum utility and ruggedness, plus they have a ton of uses. Open to Young Adults in 5th through 12th grade.

Tech-Help From Teens For Your Electronic Devices

Do you have a gadget you need to know better? Get Device-Advice from our CommuniTeens. Register and bring your portable electronics and questions for one-on-one help.

ADULTS: REGISTER in advance with the Children’s Department starting Monday, February 27th.

TECH HELPERS: Young Adults in grades 6—12 interested in volunteering their time and tech skills should contact Lisa to enlist.

Teen Spring Snacks

Come join us and learn how to make a new spring snack! Natalie Gillett (Nachef), MS, RD, the Retail Dietitian from ShopRite of Wayne will teach us all the steps you need to know for this recipe. Open to Young Adults in 5th through 12th grade. *Please be aware this may not be an allergy-friendly program.

Third Annual N.J. Makers Day! Let's Create a Water Slide

Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 3:00—4:00 PM

Celebrate NJ Maker's Day at the WPL. Engineer and create your own water slide design that doesn't leak and can safely slide down "people." A variety of materials will be used. We will learn about what materials work best and hold their shape when wet, draw a plan, build models and put them to the test.
