Winter/Spring Story Times 2019

Register online from the Events Calendar by clicking on the date of the program and title of the event.
Sessions begin the week of February 4, 2019 and continue through the week of April 22, 2019.
There will be NO Story Times on Monday, February 18th (President’s Day),
Monday, March 11th (library event) and the week of April 15th (Spring Recess).

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES:
  • Online registration begins on Tuesday, January 22, 2019  at 7:00 a.m. Register online by clicking our Events Calendar on the upper left side of the page and then select the date and title of the program.
  • Sessions are open to Wayne residents only with a valid WPL card.
  • Class size is limited, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Space is limited so children may only register for one (1) storytime session.
  • Please try to be on time.
  • Sessions will only be held if three or more children are in attendance.
  • If you cannot attend weekly Story Times, please inform the Children's Department staff, so that others on the Waiting List may attend.

Kids Helping Kids - (September - May), Open to students in elementary, middle and high school who attend Wayne Schools.
Tuesdays & Wednesdays 2:45 - 4:30 P.M. 
Wednesday Evenings: 5:30 - 7:15 PM - Location Story Time Room - Main Library

Tutoring services by the Wayne Valley High School National Honors Society will take place in the Children's Department of the Main Library for the middle school and high school students who attend Wayne schools. Students may attend one or both days. Sessions will not be held when there is no school in Wayne. You must email:wvalleynhs@gmail.com for more information. 


PAWS for Reading with Therapy Dogs at the Preakness Branch Library

2018 Dates:  Nov. 12 - Dec. 3.

Children ages 5 through 10 read to a therapy dog for 10 minute sessions. Session starts at 3:30 p.m.

Guess How Many? Harvest M&M's Contest

Monday, November 5th—Friday, November 16th

To celebrate the Thanksgiving season, we are having a guessing contest! Stop by the Children’s Reference Desk and guess how many M&Ms are in the jar. The child who guesses the closest to the correct number wins the jar. The winner will be notified by Monday, November 19th. Open to Wayne children ages 2—18.


 
Engineering for Kids - It's Magic, No it's Static

Tuesday, November 6, 2018 (No School in Wayne) 1:00— 2:00 PM

Students will work to create their own magic act using static electricity. Students will apply their knowledge of static electricity to create their own dancing robot and gravity defying snake! Open to Wayne kids in grades 1st — 3rd.

Chess Club for Kids

Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 12:30—1:30 PM

Kids can learn the game of Chess! Have fun while learning a game that uses math, logic, and problem-solving skills. Open to Wayne children in grades 2nd—4th. The Chess Club meets once a month at the library.

Rabbit Magic Craft

Friday, November 16, 2018 from 4:00—4:30 PM

Abracadabra! It’s time for a magical craft at the library. Children will listen to the story Rabbit Magic by Meg McLaren and create a one-of-a-kind craft. Open to Wayne children ages 3 — 7. Parent/guardian must stay with the child to help complete the craft.

Gobble Up a Healthy Snack

Monday, November 26, 2018 from 4:00—4:30 PM

Join our ShopRite dietician for a healthy and fun Thanksgiving snack! Open to Wayne children ages 21/2 — 5.

Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from 6:00—8:00 PM

The holidays are coming! Join us for the movie Elf as we celebrate Elf Day (a holiday we just made up!). We’ll provide free elf hats, chocolate milk and treats. Movie is rated PG and has a runtime 97 minutes. Open to Wayne children ages 5 & up. Parents must stay in room with child the entire time.

Kids Knit & Nosh

Wednesday, November 28, 2018 from 4:00—5:00 PM

Learn the basic skills to create fun knitted projects! Knitting Club is open to beginners or those who want to improve their skills. NOTE: Please bring your own kids Knitting Needles: 7”-Size 10/6mm or anything close to this would be preferred for little hands. Open to Wayne kids in grades 2nd — 4th.
