Programs are open to Wayne residents only, and are held at the Main library of the Wayne Public Library, unless specified.

Winter/Spring Times 2017

Register online from the Events Calendar by clicking on the date of the program and title of the event.

Winter/Spring Story Time Sessions will begin the week of February 6th, 2017 and continue through the week of April 24th, 2017.

**There will be No Tot-Time and Story Times Time on Monday, February 20th (President's Day), Monday, March 6th (library event) and the week of April 17th (Spring Recess.) 

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES:
  • Online registration begins on Monday, January 23rd, 2017 at 7:00 a.m. Register online by clicking on the Events calendar for the week of January 23rd to the left or visit Events above. Sessions are open to Wayne residents only with a valid WPL card. Class size is limited, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Please try to be on time.
  • Sessions will only be held if three or more children are in attendance.
  • If you cannot attend weekly Story Times, please inform the Children's Department staff, so that others on the Waiting List may attend.

Kids Helping Kids - Open to students in elementary, middle and high school who attend Wayne Schools.

Wednesday Evenings: 5:30 - 7:15 PM - Location Story Time Room - Main Library

Tutoring services by the Wayne Valley High School National Honors Society will take place in the Children's Department of the Main Library for the middle school and high school students who attend Wayne schools. Students may attend one or both days. Sessions will not be held when there is no school in Wayne. You must email:wvalleynhs@gmail.com for more information.

Music with Kurt Gallagher

Monday, February 20, 2017 from 10:30—11:15 AM

Mr. Gallagher will perform a happy, lively presentation of songs and music. Open to Wayne children of all ages.

Salute to Seuss!

Tuesday, February 28, 2017 from 4:15—5:00 PM

Come celebrate all things Dr. Seuss! Magician Jim Vagias will be performing his wonderful program “Read Across America/Salute to Seuss.” There will be a lot of humor and audience participation. After this program all children will be inspired to read a Dr. Seuss book! Open to Wayne children in grades K—5.

The Library Needs Legos!

Help us start a new LEGO Club for kids in grades K—5.We are looking for permanent donations of new or gently-used LEGO bricks. If you can help us out, please drop off your donations at the children’s Desk. Thank you!


Guess How Many Chocolate Coins

Tuesday, March 7th – Thursday, March 16th

Guess how many St. Patrick’s Day chocolate coins. Person who guesses closest to the number wins the jar of candy!

Open to Wayne children ages 2—18.


St. Paddy's Day Movie: The Very Unlucky Leprechaun

Tuesday, March 14, 2017 from 6:15—8:00 PM (approx.)

Nine year old Molly and her father inherit a house in Ireland known as “Misfortune Manor” and Molly meets an unlucky leprechaun who need her help to turn his luck around. Open to Wayne children ages 6 — 9. Theme inspired snacks will be served.

St. Patrick's Day Craft

Wednesday, March 15, 2017 from 4:00—4:30 PM

Get into the St. Patrick's Day spirit at our St. Patrick's Day Craft! Children will listen to a story and create a charming craft! Open to Wayne children age 3 — 1st grade. Parent/guardian must stay with child(ren) to help complete the craft.

Read to A Dog

Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 4:00—5:00 PM

Children ages 5 through 10 will build confidence and improve reading skills when the therapy dog they read to listens to their stories. Two therapy dogs will be on hand to listen carefully. They will not criticize or correct, but will patiently allow the child to read at his or her own pace. Each child will read from his or her own book for about 10—15 minutes.

Special Needs Acrobatics Class

Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 11:00—11:45 AM

Zig Zag Acrobatics will be here to hold an adapted tumbling class for Wayne children ages 7—15. The adapted class provides an opportunity for children with motor delays, developmental delays and social & emotional regulation difficulties to engage in a fun, social and skill oriented class! Open to Wayne children ages 7 – 15.

Picture Book Craft Club: the Very Hungry Caterpillar

Monday, March 20, 2017 from 6:30—7:00 PM

Join us for our new program which kicks off with a celebration of the classic picture book The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. This bimonthly program will feature some of the very best picture books, which will inspire children to create a one-of-a-kind craft. Open to Wayne children age 3 — 1st grade. Parent/guardian must stay with child(ren) to help complete the craft.

Celebrate N.J. Maker's Day - Building Rafts and Boats!

Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 12:00—1:00 PM

Children will build rafts & boats to Keep the Gingerbread Man Safe and Dry - Based on the story, kids will construct boats using simple materials (straws, paper, foam, foil, etc.). Children will figure out what works best and test their creations in tubs of water. Open to Wayne children in grades kindergarten – 1st.

Catapult Making with Peeps!

Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 1:30—2:30 PM

Children will construct catapults and practice launching various items such as Legos, erasers and lead up to marshmallow Peeps. Children will talk about why certain items launch farther than others and actually have tape lines down to measure their distances. Open to Wayne children in grades 2—4.
