Programs are open to Wayne residents only, and are held at the Main library of the Wayne Public Library, unless specified.

Summer Story Times 2017

Register online from the Events Calendar by clicking on the date of the program and title of the event.

Summer Story Time Sessions will begin the week of June 26th, 2017 and continue through the week of August 7th, 2017.

**NOTE: There will be No Tot-Time and Story Times, Itsy Bitsy the week of july 3rd. There will be no Itsy Vitsy and Tot-Time on Tuesday, July 18th. They are re-scheduled for Friday, July 21st at the same time.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES:
  • Online registration begins on Monday, June 12th, 2017 at 7:00 a.m. Register online by clicking on the Events calendar for the week of January 23rd to the left or visit Events above. Sessions are open to Wayne residents only with a valid WPL card. Class size is limited, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Please try to be on time.
  • Sessions will only be held if three or more children are in attendance.
  • If you cannot attend weekly Story Times, please inform the Children's Department staff, so that others on the Waiting List may attend.

Wednesday Evenings: 5:30 - 7:15 PM - Location Story Time Room - Main Library

Tutoring services by the Wayne Valley High School National Honors Society will take place in the Children's Department of the Main Library for the middle school and high school students who attend Wayne schools. Students may attend one or both days. Sessions will not be held when there is no school in Wayne. You must email:wvalleynhs@gmail.com for more information.

Engineering For Kids: 3-2-1...Blastoff!

Thursday, April 27, 2017 from 6:00—6:45 PM

For this activity, students will get a glimpse into the world of rocketry and aerodynamics. Students will design a model rocket using a straw, clay, and paper fins and will test the design of their rocket using a pneumatic-launching device. Open to Wayne children in grades kindergarten – 2nd.

Music With Kurt GaLLagher

A special session for just the little ones. Come sing Row “Row Row your Boat”, the “ABC song” and much more! Open to children from 6 months to kindergarten.

Morris Museum Astronomical Society presents: Observe the Sun

Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 2:00—3:30 PM

Joe Molnar joins us from the Morris Museum Astronomical Society with a special solar observing program that will let us to see and learn all about our sun. This is a unique opportunity that allows us to see the surface of the sun safely through special telescopes.

Children in grades 3rd—12th & parents are welcomed.

Celebrate Mother’s Day at the library! Wayne children age 3—1st grade will listen to a story and create a unique craft to give to someone special! Parent/guardian must stay in the program with child to assist with the craft.

Touch the Music: Tubby the Tuba

Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 1:30—2:15 PM

Touch the Music is a hands-on music program that introduces children to the fascinating world of musical instruments. After presenting the musical story of Tubby the Tuba, Ms. Claudia will introduce instruments from the story: violin, flute, xylophone, French horn, tuba and more.  Each child will have the opportunity to try them out.

Picture Book Craft Club: The Three Ninja Pigs

Tuesday, May 16, 2017 from 4:00—4:30 PM

Watch out for the three ninja pigs! This hilarious take on the classic “Three Little Pigs” story is the inspiration for this month’s Picture Book Craft Club. This bimonthly program will feature some of the very best picture books, which will inspire children to create a one-of-a-kind craft. Open to Wayne children age 3—1st grade.

Parent/guardian must stay with the child to help complete the craft. Register online beginning Monday, May 8th at 7:00 AM.


REad to A Dog

Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 4:00—5:00 PM

Children ages 5 through 10 will build confidence and improve reading skills when the therapy dog they read to listens to their stories. Two therapy dogs will be on hand to listen carefully. Each child will read from his or her own book for about 10—15 minutes.

Chess Club for Kids

Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 2:00—3:00 PM

Kids can learn the game of Chess! Have fun while learning a game that uses math, logic, and problem-solving skills.  Open to Wayne children in grades 2nd—4th. The Chess Club meets once a month at the library.

Children's Ballet: "The Snow Queen"

Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 4:15—5:00 PM (approx.)

The McKenna School of Dance, under the direction of Cindy Griffenkranz, will present a wonderful ballet for Wayne children ages 4 & up.  Children must be able to sit quietly for the entire performance.
