Winter/Spring Story Times 2019

Register online from the Events Calendar by clicking on the date of the program and title of the event.
Sessions begin the week of February 4, 2019 and continue through the week of April 22, 2019.
There will be NO Story Times on Monday, February 18th (President’s Day),
Monday, March 11th (library event) and the week of April 15th (Spring Recess).

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES:
  • Online registration begins on Tuesday, January 22, 2019  at 7:00 a.m. Register online by clicking our Events Calendar on the upper left side of the page and then select the date and title of the program.
  • Sessions are open to Wayne residents only with a valid WPL card.
  • Class size is limited, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Space is limited so children may only register for one (1) storytime session.
  • Please try to be on time.
  • Sessions will only be held if three or more children are in attendance.
  • If you cannot attend weekly Story Times, please inform the Children's Department staff, so that others on the Waiting List may attend.

Kids Helping Kids - (September - May), Open to students in elementary, middle and high school who attend Wayne Schools.
Tuesdays & Wednesdays 2:45 - 4:30 P.M. 
Wednesday Evenings: 5:30 - 7:15 PM - Location Story Time Room - Main Library

Tutoring services by the Wayne Valley High School National Honors Society will take place in the Children's Department of the Main Library for the middle school and high school students who attend Wayne schools. Students may attend one or both days. Sessions will not be held when there is no school in Wayne. You must email:wvalleynhs@gmail.com for more information. 


PAWS for Reading with Therapy Dogs at the Preakness Branch Library

2019 Dates: January 7 - February 4 - March 4 - April 1 - May 13 - June 3 - November 4 - December 2

Children ages 5 through 10 read to a therapy dog for 10 minute sessions. Session starts at 3:30 p.m.

Please register beginning December 8th at 10 AM  online by selecting the program date on the calendar.  - Pre-registration is required!

Children's Holiday Ballet

Wednesday, December 12, 2018 from 4:15—5:00 PM (appx.)

The McKenna School of Dance, under the direction of Cindy Griffenkranz, will present a wonderful holiday ballet, “Mischievous Mice,” for Wayne children ages 4 & up. Children must be able to sit quietly for the entire performance.

Polar Express Cookie Train

Kids Knit & Nosh

Learn the basic skills to create fun knitted projects! Knitting Club is open to beginners or those who want to improve their skills. NOTE: Please bring your own kids Knitting Needles: 7”-Size 10/6mm or anything close to this would be preferred for little hands.

Chess Club for Kids

Kids can learn the game of Chess! Have fun while learning a game that uses math, logic, and problem-solving skills. Open to Wayne children in grades 2nd—4th. The Chess Club meets once a month at the library.

Read to a Dog

Thursday, January 17, 2019 from 4:00—5:00 PM

Wayne children ages 5 through 10 will build confidence and improve reading skills when the therapy dog they read to listens to their stories. Each child will read from his or her own book for about 10—15 minutes.

Sleepy Bear Craft with Miss Melissa

Tuesday, January 22, 2019 from 4:00—4:30 PM

Stay warm at our cozy Sleepy Bear Craft! Inspired by The Bear in My Bed by Joyce Wan, children will listen to the story and create a one-of-a-kind craft. Open to Wayne children ages 3 — 7. Parent/guardian must stay with the child to help complete the craft.

Engineering for Kids: Rolling Rambler

Thursday, January 31, 2019 from 4:00—4:45 PM

For this activity, students will construct a model of a car using a toilet paper tube and other household items. They will learn about the car’s wheel and axle system and they will explore the principles of speed and acceleration as they test-drive their Rolling Rambler.
