Fall Story Times 2017

Register online from the Events Calendar by clicking on the date of the program and title of the event.

Fall Story Time Sessions will begin the week of September 25th, 2017 and continue through the week of November 13th, 2017.

**NOTE: There will be No Tot-Time and Ravenous Readers on Monday October 9th due to Cloumbus Day and No Picture Book Story Time and Tot-Time on Tuesday, November 7th due to Election Day.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES:
  • Online registration begins on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 7:00 a.m. Register online by clicking on the Events calendar for the week of September 25th to the left or visit Events above. Sessions are open to Wayne residents only with a valid WPL card. Class size is limited, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Please try to be on time.
  • Sessions will only be held if three or more children are in attendance.
  • If you cannot attend weekly Story Times, please inform the Children's Department staff, so that others on the Waiting List may attend.

Kids Helping Kids
- Open to students in elementary, middle and high school who attend Wayne Schools.

Tuesdays & Wednesdays 2:45 - 4:30 P.M. from Sept 2017 Date to be announced. 

Wednesday Evenings: 5:30 - 7:15 PM - Location Story Time Room - Main Library

Tutoring services by the Wayne Valley High School National Honors Society will take place in the Children's Department of the Main Library for the middle school and high school students who attend Wayne schools. Students may attend one or both days. Sessions will not be held when there is no school in Wayne. You must email:wvalleynhs@gmail.com for more information.

Thank a Veteran, Make A Card

Monday, November 6th—Thursday, November 30th

In honor of Veteran’s Day, our card-making station will be open for children to create cards for veterans. All cards will be collected and delivered to the VA Hospital in East Orange, NJ.


Thanksgiving Craft with Miss Melissa

Tuesday, November 21, 2017 from 4:00—4:30 PM

Thanksgiving is almost here! Celebrate with us as we listen to a Thanksgiving story and create a unique craft to take home. Open to Wayne children ages 3—7. Parent/guardian must stay with child to help with the craft.

Healthy Holiday Treats & Story

Monday, December 4, 2017 from 3:00—3:30 PM

The holidays are here!  Share the joy with Shoprite Dietician Ms. Natalie by making a fun holiday treat! Open to Wayne children ages 2½— 5.

Children's Ballet - Santa's List

Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 4:15—5:00 PM (approx.)

The McKenna School of Dance, under the direction of Cindy Griffenkranz, will present a wonderful holiday ballet for Wayne children ages 4 & up. Children must be able to sit quietly for the entire performance.

Read to a Dog

Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 4:00—5:00 PM

Children ages 5—10 will build confidence and improve reading skills when the therapy dog they read to listens to their stories. Each child will read from his/her own book for about 10—15 minutes.

Winter Craft with Miss Melissa

Friday, December 8, 2017 from 4:00—4:30 PM

Winter is almost here! Celebrate the season at our Winter Craft with Miss Melissa. We will read a wintry story and then children will have fun creating a unique winter-inspired craft. Parent/guardian must stay with child to help complete the craft. Open to Wayne children ages 3—7.

Holiday Music with Kurt Gallagher

Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 10:30—11:15 AM

Mr. Gallagher will perform a happy, lively presentation of songs and music. He’ll be sure to put you in the holiday spirit! Open to Wayne children of all ages.

Chess Club for Kids

Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 2:30—3:30 PM

Kids can learn the game of Chess! Have fun while learning a game that uses math, logic, and problem-solving skills. Open to Wayne children in grades 2nd—4th. The Chess Club meets once a month at the library.

Decorate a Mini Gingerbread House

Tuesday, December 12, 2017 from 4:14—4:45 PM

Join Miss Marianne from Edible Art for this fun-filled workshop on decorating a mini gingerbread house. Let the kid in you come out as we use graham crackers, frosting and candy to build a holiday treat. Building materials will be supplied by the library, you bring the ideas. *If your child has food allergies please decide if this craft is appropriate as there are multiple food items involved.* Open to Wayne children in grades 1st through 4th.

Gingerbread Man Decorating

Thursday, December 14, 2017 from 4:00-4:30 PM OR 6:30-7:00 PM

Child can register for only ONE session.

"Run, run as fast as you can, it just wouldn’t be the holidays without the gingerbread man!  Come to the library and frost him, decorate him & eat him, or share him with the family! Milk will also be served! Open to Wayne children ages 3 through 1st grade. If your child has food allergies please decide if this craft is appropriate, as there are multiple food items involved.

Family Movie Night: The Polar Express ©Warner

Tuesday, December 19, 2017 from 6:00 – 7:45 PM (apprx.)

In this holiday classic a doubting boy boards a magical train on Christmas Eve and takes a trip to the North Pole to meet Santa Claus. This movie is rated PG and has a runtime of 100 minutes. Holiday snacks will be served! Pajamas are optional. For Wayne children in grades K—5.

Touch the Music: The Nutcracker

New Year's Eve Celebration with Mad Science

Saturday, December 30, 2017 from 11:00 AM—12:00 PM

A fantastic romp through a wonderful world of winter! Join our Mad Scientists this winter as they take you dashing through the snow with these festive experiments! We will be melting snowmen with cold chemistry, and creating our season of lights with fun and festive fireworks! Don't miss these awesomely chilly experiments and so much more! Open to Wayne children in grades K – 4th. Space is limited.
