Winter Spring Story Times 2020

Register online from the Events Calendar by clicking on the date of the program and title of the event.
Story Time Sessions begin the week of February 3, 2020 and continue through the week of April 20, 2020. There will be NO Story Times on Monday, February 17th (President’s Day) and the week of April 6th (Spring Recess). Online registration begins Tuesday, January 21st at 7:00 AM.*. Visit waynepubliclibrary.org to register. Programs are open to Wayne residents only with a valid Wayne Library card. Space is limited, so be sure to register early! Child can only be registered for 1 session. There will be NO Story Times on Monday, September 30th (Rosh Hashanah), Monday, October 14th (Columbus Day) and Tuesday, November 5th (Election Day).


PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES:
  • Online registration begins on Tuesday, January 21st at 7:00 AM  Register online by clicking our Events Calendar on the upper left side of the page and then select the date and title of the program.
  • Sessions are open to Wayne residents only with a valid WPL card.
  • Class size is limited, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Space is limited so children may only register for one (1) storytime session.
  • Please try to be on time.
  • Sessions will only be held if three or more children are in attendance.
  • If you cannot attend weekly Story Times, please inform the Children's Department staff, so that others on the Waiting List may attend.

Kids Helping Kids - (September - May), Open to students in elementary, middle and high school who attend Wayne Schools.
Tuesdays & Wednesdays 2:45 - 4:30 P.M. 
Wednesday Evenings: 5:30 - 7:15 PM - Location Story Time Room - Main Library

Tutoring services by the Wayne Valley High School National Honors Society will take place in the Children's Department of the Main Library for the middle school and high school students who attend Wayne schools. Students may attend one or both days. Sessions will not be held when there is no school in Wayne. You must email:wvalleynhs@gmail.com for more information. 
 


Chess Club for Teens

Tuesday, February 4, 11, 18, 25 from 4:00—5:00 PM

A learning experience for teens willing to develop chess skills & knowledge while also playing against other people in a competitive atmosphere.

Open to kids ages 9—15 (no experience required). Online registration for all dates starts Tuesday, January 21st at 7:00 AM.



Knit & Nosh for Kids & Teens

Wednesday, February 26, 2020 from 4:00—5:00 PM

Learn the basic skills to create fun knitted projects! Knitting Club is open to beginners or those who want to improve their skills.

NOTE: Please bring your own kids Knitting Needles: 7”-Size 10/6mm or anything close to this would be preferred for little hands.

Open to Wayne kids in 2nd grade & up. Register online beginning Wednesday, February 12th at 7:00 AM.

Currier’s Magical Mania presents this fun, lively and interactive program run by a very funny and silly cat who causes all types of mischief. You may know Thing 1 and Thing 2, you will now meet Thing 3 as we explore the background of Dr. Seuss and his beloved works.

Chess Club for Kids

Saturday, March 7, 2020 from 2:30—3:30 PM

Kids can learn the game of Chess! Have fun while learning a game that uses math, logic, and problem-solving skills. Open to Wayne children in grades 2nd—4th. The Chess Club meets once a month at the library.

Irish Step Dancing

Wednesday, March 11, 2020 from 4:15—5:00 PM (approx.)

Let’s celebrate St. Patrick’s Day a little early. Join us for a performance by the Ridgewood Irish Dance Academy with live music, featuring traditional and contemporary Irish dance moves! Open to Wayne children ages 4 & up.

Children must be able to sit quietly for the entire performance. Register online beginning Monday, March 2nd at 7 AM.



Bach to Rock Presents Rock City

Thursday, March 12, 2020 from 4:30—5:00 PM

Rock City is the place to find real music education for beginners! We will expose our young participants to dynamic musical and movement-based activities, introduce them to live instruments and musically inspired-story time.

Afternoon Board Games

Saturday, March 14, 2020 from 2:00—4:00 PM

A fun family afternoon and an opportunity to try new games or play old favorites. You can play one of ours or bring one of your own. Feel free to bring some food to snack on while you play. Note: This is a drop-in program. Feel free to come and go as you please. Open to all ages.

Lucky Leprechaun Craft with Miss Melissa

Monday, March 16, 2020 from 6:30—7:00 PM

Grab a four-leaf clover and stepdance your way to the library for our Lucky Leprechaun Craft! Children will listen to a story and create a unique craft.

Open to Wayne children ages 3 — 6. Parent/guardian must stay with the child to help complete the craft. Register online beginning Monday, March 9th at 7:00 AM.



Read to a Dog

Thursday, March 19, 2020 from 4:00—5:00 PM

Wayne children ages 5 — 10 will build confidence and improve reading skills when the therapy dog they read to listens to their stories. Each child will read from his or her own book for about 10—15 minutes.

Maker's Day with Idea Lab

Wayne Public Library is collaboration with Idea Lab Kids is celebrating Maker’s Day! Come join us at the Library for a day of inspiring activities that showcase and highlight Maker’s Day in supporting a STEM culture of innovation and hands-on learning. We will have several stations including Slime Station, 3D Demonstration, Robotics, Investigative Science and Design Engineering.

Open to Wayne children ages 5—12. Drop-in anytime. No registration needed.
