Revealing the Infrared Universe - the James Webb Space Telescope - presented by Dr. Christine Chen

Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 7:00 PM - Library Meeting Room

In December 2021 the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) will begin its mission to revolutionize our understanding of the universe. With its 6.5 m diameter
primary mirror, JWST will be the largest telescope ever launched into space and will observe everything from the first galaxies at the edge of the universe that
formed right after the Big Bang to nearby exoplanetary systems containing gas giant and terrestrial planets and even asteroid and Kuiper Belts around other
stars. Dr. Christine Chen will describe the history behind JWST and the observations that are planned for the first year of JWST operations.
