Virtual Banned Books Open Mic - October 1st

10/1/2020 - 3:45 PM - 4:45 PM

#BannedBooksWeek (September 27 - October 3, 2020) is a national annual event celebrating the freedom to read, which is guaranteed by the First Amendment. Books are still being banned and challenged today. A challenge is an attempt to remove or restrict materials, based upon the objections of a person or group. A banning is the removal of those materials.

Zoom into a virtual open mic night where adults can read excerpts from favorite banned and challenged books. From the comfort of your own home, get camera ready, each person has a reading up to 5 minutes, and enjoy beverages of your choice during the readings!

Select your passage based on the American Library Association's Office for Intellectual Freedom (OIF) lists, as well as the Freedom to Read Foundation's data.

Email Eleana for an invitation to register & participate, as well as how to access curated lists.
