    You must select an Internet access level for this card. All computers in the Wayne Public Library will require a card before you may access the Internet. The computers will only allow access at the level selected. We encourage parents to select the level they feel is appropriate for their individual child. Although the use of filtering will provide some protection for children as they use the Internet, no technological solution is infallible and the best protection is for you to be with your child as he or she uses the Internet. The level of access may be changed if, in the future, you find that

    Level 1 - Open access. No restriction on access.

    Level 2 - Blocks Banner Ads and anonymous web surfing (see note below)

    Level 3 - Blocks Banner Ads, sex sites, obscene sites and anonymous web surfing (see note below)

    Level 4 - Blocks Banner Ads, sex sites, obscene sites, chat rooms, criminal skills and anonymous web surfing (see note below).

    Level 5 - Blocks Banner Ads, sex sites, obscene sites, chat rooms, criminal skills, anarchy, cults/gothic, drugs, gambling, hate/discrimination, games, personals/dating sites, Web-based e-mail and anonymous web surfing (seenote below).

    Level 6 - No Banner Ads, sex sites, obscene sites, chat rooms, criminal skills, anarchy, cults/gothic, drugs, gambling, hate/discrimination, games, personals/dating sites, Web-based e-mail and anonymous web surfing (see note below).

    Library ethical rules state that it is a basic right of every individual to read what he or she wishes without fear of censure or legal consequences. It is also the right of every person to privacy. The library will protect each user’s right to privacy with respect to all information required for registration and for information sought or received, and materials consulted, borrowed or acquired. Such records will not be made available to any individual, organization or government agency except pursuant to Education Code 18A:73 – 43:2. The law and this policy do not differ because of age of the library user, or because of the relationship between the library user and the person requesting information. Even to law enforcement officials, disclosure will not be made unless a subpoena is issued or the other requirements are met.

    Library records which contain the names or the other personally identifying details regarding the users of library are confidential and shall not be disclosed except in the following circumstances:

    a. The records are necessary for the proper operation of the library

    b. Disclosure is requested by the user; or

    c. Disclosure is required by pursuant to a subpoena issued by a court or court order.
